On the occasion of the 154th Gandhi Jayanti, Prime Minister Modi honoured Mahatma Gandhi with flowers at Rajghat in the nation’s capital on Monday.

President of India Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in the national capital on the occasion of 154th Gandhi Jayanti.

Mahatma Gandhi’s honours on social media were spearheaded by the Prime Minister, who claimed that his influence was “global” and that he “motivated the entire humankind to further the spirit of unity and compassion.”

On this unique Gandhi Jayanti occasion, I bow to Mahatma Gandhi. His ageless wisdom keeps illuminating our way. May we never stop trying to realise his dreams. He posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, “May his thoughts enable every youngster to be the agent of change he dreamt of, fostering unity and harmony all over.”

At Rajghat, Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also presented flowers in honour of Mahatma Gandhi.

While presenting the flowers at Rajghat, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge remarked that Mahatma Gandhi was “not just an individual, but an idea, an ideology, and the moral compass of our great nation.”

His beliefs in equality, truth, nonviolence, freedom, and peaceful cohabitation are timeless. On Bapu’s Jayanti, we honour his values with reverence,” he wrote in a post on X.

On Gandhi Jayanti, we pay a billion tributes to the Mahatma, whose lifelong dedication to the cause of freedom won India her independence, tweeted the Congress party’s official X handle. Let us promise to keep his principles of non-violence, peace, and unity—the cornerstones of our country—as our beacon of hope.

Mahua Manjhi, the head of the JMM, chief minister Hemant Soren, and governor CP Radhakrishnan of Jharkhand are seen presenting flowers to Mahatma Gandhi in Ranchi.

Gandhi Jayanti is observed annually on October 2 to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. In observance of Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings on tolerance and nonviolence, the day is also observed as the International Day of Nonviolence.
