This is the match for the Carolina Reaper.
According to Guinness World Records, Chilli Pepper X has taken the title of spiciest person on earth as of Monday.
The new pepper broke the previous record holder, Carolina Reaper, which averages 1.64 million Scoville Heat Units (SHU), according to testing conducted by Winthrop University in South Carolina. The new pepper has an average of 2.69 million SHU.
American chemist Wilbur Scoville created the SHU scale to gauge the intensity of chilli peppers in 1912.
In contrast, Guinness reports that the average jalapeño pepper has a SHU of 3,000–8,000.
Ed Currie, the creator of Puckerbutt Pepper Company in South Carolina, grows Pepper X. In 2013, he also designed the Carolina Reaper, which broke the record.
According to Guinness’ website, “Ed cultivated Pepper X on his farm for over 10 years, cross-breeding it with some of his hottest peppers to increase its capsaicin content.”
In an episode of the well-liked YouTube series “Hot Ones,” Currie introduced Pepper X to the public for the first time.
“It is foolish of those not to fear the Reaper.” On the Puckerbutt Pepper Company’s website, the dethroned pepper is described as “painstakingly hot.”
There’s been no news yet on how they characterise a pepper that has a Scoville rating one million higher than the Reaper.
