While revealing additional specifics from the accord, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Wednesday that the “release of murderers” is not part of the hostage deal.
The accord has been hailed by the majority of Israelis, and Netanyahu declared that the security establishments and the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) completely back the agreement with Hamas.
Netanyahu stated at a press conference, “They made it clear yesterday at the government meeting that the security of our forces will be maintained during the pause days.”
However, some have expressed worry that Palestinians scheduled for release from Israeli prisons
may include those who have carried out deadly assaults against Israelis.
A small number of the Palestinians designated as eligible for release are as young as 14, but the bulk are male teenagers between the ages of 16 and 18, who are considered children by the UN. 33 of them are female.
Netanyahu attributed the agreement’s success to Israel’s “heavy” diplomatic pressure on Hamas and its “non-stop massive military pressure” to free the detainees the militant group had taken hostage.
Netanyahu declared, “We have fought to improve the agreement and conducted tough negotiations.”
“Acting at my request, vis-à-vis the mediators, to achieve a significant improvement in the agreement, and such an improvement was indeed achieved,” he said, saying he thanked US President Joe Biden to him during their conversation on Wednesday.
The prime minister declared, “I think that this combination of diplomatic and military efforts will allow the release of additional hostages in the coming stages.”
The IDF will “prepare for the continuation” of the war against Hamas, according to Netanyahu, during the ceasefire.
He declared, “The war is still going on and won’t end until we accomplish all of our objectives.”
