Low fuel supplies, according to a physician at Gaza City’s Al-Shifa hospital, have shut off vital, fundamental functions like oxygen production and left wards in complete darkness.
Dr. Yousef Abu Al-Rish, head of the hospitals in Gaza, stated that just one operating room, the emergency room, and the intensive care unit (ICU) are still operational.
Following the October 7th attack by Hamas, Israel has blocked the entry of fuel into Gaza. Hamas is accused by the Israeli government of accumulating gasoline at the expense of civilian services.
Abu Al-Rish films an almost completely dark building while highlighting the impacted services.
“The newborn intensive care unit is located in this maternity hospital over there. The remainder of the hospital looks like this. And this is the structure housing the surgical department’, he adds.
“Our only goal is to maintain the hospital’s operations… As you can see, even the administrative portion is currently completely dark.
In order to prolong the gasoline as long as possible, he claimed, they were “trying our best.”
“Every other service that is directly associated with power will cease to exist. For instance, the oxygen generator stopped because there was no fuel.
Additionally, at the Al-Shifa facility, Dr. Ghassan Abu-Sittah informed Kaitlan Collins that the facility is now operating on just one generator as a result of another generator being turned off due to a fuel shortage.
Abu-Sittah declared, “This hospital will become a mass grave unless there is electricity.” That’s all there is to it. There is nothing left for this institution to do but come to an end if we are unable to maintain the ventilators or return our seriously injured patients to the operation room.
In his video, Abu Al-Rish said that requests for assistance had not been heeded.
“Nobody answers,” he declared. It is beyond comprehension for anyone how nurses would perform their duties of administering medication and conducting follow-up in the absence of an electromechanical system. without even the light. It’s really disastrous.
