Concerns about Joe Biden’s age, according to Kamala Harris, don’t bother her.
Harris stated to Bill Whitaker of 60 Minutes that she doesn’t “have time for parlorgame.”
The worries expressed by some regarding President Joe Biden’s age don’t disturb Vice President Kamala Harris.
In an interview with Bill Whitaker of 60 Minutes, Harris, 59, said as much. Whitaker questioned Harris about why supporters don’t appear to believe she can win reelection if Biden, 80, couldn’t get beyond his attempt. The interview was broadcast on Sunday.
“Well, first of all, I’m not going to engage in that hypothetical, ’cause Joe Biden is very much alive and running for reelection,” Harris said to Whitaker.
Whitaker pressed Harris, who replied that she doesn’t follow rumours.
“I hear a wide range of things from a wide variety of people. However, I must say that I am totally focused on my work. I really am,” Harris affirmed.
“Bill, there’s a democracy at stake. “To be honest, I don’t have time for idle chatter when our president is up for reelection,” Harris went on. “That’s it.”
Whitaker also brought up the results of campaign polling for former President Donald Trump. According to recent surveys, Biden and Trump are in a close battle.
“I believe there will be a clear decision when the American people are able to closely examine their options during election season. We will prevail, Bill,” Harris declared.
“Permit me to just say that. We will triumph. It won’t be simple, either, I assure you. Still, we’ll prevail,” she said.
In a video announcement, Biden declared his candidature for reelection in April and urged supporters to support him in his efforts to “finish the job.”
But there are worries about Biden’s age. When Biden steps down from the White House, he will be 86 years old, if he wins and serves a second term. Biden is aware of these concerns.
“I believe that worrying about one’s age—mine included—is a valid concern. In an October 2022 interview with MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart, Biden stated, “I think that’s totally legitimate.” The greatest way to judge me is to watch me. Am I becoming slower? Is my pace the same as theirs?
Biden’s age is a factor that has drawn attention to his running mate’s electability. As the first female vice president in US history, Harris has experienced highs and lows since assuming office.
Republicans criticised Harris for her handling of the migrant crisis at the US-Mexico border, in addition to the high-profile staff turnover she had in her early days as vice president.
Biden has supported Harris’ performance. As Biden put it in an MSNBC interview in May, Harris “hasn’t gotten the credit that she deserves.”
An inquiry from Insider seeking comment received after regular business hours was not immediately answered by Harris’s representatives.
