The comedian, who will perform at Wiley’s Comedy Niteclub on Friday, August 24, and Saturday, August 25, has been doing stand-up for ten years, but he is best recognised for his work as a character actor on “The Bob & Tom Show.”
Since 2005, the native of Indiana who now resides in Florida has played a crucial role in the hit radio show, providing the voices of the rascally redneck Donnie Baker, the aged good old guy Floyd the Trucker, and the hyperactive travelling salesman Kenny Tarmac.
It wasn’t until 2007 that comedian and buddy Greg Hahn pointed out the missed opportunity with the listener favourites that the recurring characters were included into his nightclub act.
Sexton stated that she only had approximately 25 minutes of material when she first began performing Donnie on stage but she wanted to be able to put on a whole show. “In this manner, the Pork Pistols developed. I could extend that to well over an hour with the band. It launched right away.
After six years of touring just as his most well-known on-air persona, Sexton expanded the performance in 2011 to add Kenny Tarmac and Floyd the Trucker.
In order to construct the next mould, which included including Floyd and Kenny, Sexton remarked, “It was going well but you settle into a routine.” “For me, that worked. I prefer to be able to perform a complete show. I like it because it gives me a chance to try new things and bring to the stage some of the characters I play on television.
“I can open for myself and still be able to finish the show,” he continued. It’s been received quite positively.
But he’s bringing the band to Wiley’s for an entire night of Donnie.
Doing Pork Pistols performances is always enjoyable, said Sexton. “I’m not sure if anything has been more fun than playing the part of a terrible rock star. Always a good time.
