SpaceX successfully launched another batch of 23 Starlink satellites early Sunday morning, December 8, 2024, as part of its ongoing mission to expand global broadband internet coverage. The launch took place at 12:12 a.m. EST (0512 GMT) from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
The Falcon 9 rocket carried 23 Starlink spacecraft into orbit, including 13 satellites equipped with direct-to-cell technology, which aims to improve cellular connectivity in remote areas by allowing mobile phones to communicate directly with satellites. This technological advancement is expected to enhance communication capabilities, especially in regions with limited ground-based infrastructure.
Approximately eight minutes after the launch, the Falcon 9’s first stage successfully landed on SpaceX’s droneship, “A Shortfall of Gravitas,” stationed in the Atlantic Ocean, completing another flawless landing as part of SpaceX’s reusable rocket program.
This milestone further strengthens SpaceX’s Starlink project, which is designed to provide fast and reliable internet access to underserved and rural areas worldwide. With this launch, the company continues to make significant progress in its goal of delivering global internet coverage via its growing network of satellites.
