When the Miami Dolphins score 70 points, they decide to kneel instead of trying to break the NFL scoring record.

The Miami Dolphins displayed a masterful offensive performance on Sunday, thrashing the Denver Broncos 70-20 in their home opener and setting a record for the second-highest point total scored by a club in an NFL regular season game.

In the 1940 NFL Championship, the Chicago Bears set the NFL record for points scored in a single game, with 73. In the regular season, Washington set a record in 1966 with 72 points.

Instead of kicking a field goal from the Broncos’ 28-yard line late in the fourth quarter, the Dolphins chose to kneel, missing the opportunity to tie the Bears’ record and break the NFL regular season record.

We weren’t here to chase records or points, and that’s what it felt like. The Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel stated that it has no effect on the season’s final result. In certain circumstances, you give in and bend down 90% of the time. It was wonderful that there was an attainable record, but the message it seemed to convey didn’t align with my worldview.Including playoffs, Miami’s victory marks just the fourth occasion in NFL history that a club has scored at least 70 points,

Tua Tagovailoa, the quarterback for the Dolphins, had a perfect first half, finishing 16 of 16 passes for 206 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions to put the team ahead 35–13.

After more than 15 throws without an incomplete and more than 200 yards passing at halftime, Tagovailoa is the first quarterback since 1991 to accomplish this feat.

Tagovailoa remarked, “This isn’t like anything I’ve seen or experienced.” All it discusses is how resilient our team is. Even though we led at halftime, I’m really pleased of the boys for their perseverance on the pitch. Everybody kept playing without taking their foot off the gas, and that’s what happened.

Dolphins running backs Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane, meanwhile, combined for eight touchdowns as Miami surpassed a 15-point franchise scoring record.

With eighteen carries, Achane ended with 203 rushing yards, while Mostert finished with 142 total yards.

The majority of the team’s talents, including Tagovailoa, were substituted out of the game early in the fourth quarter. On 23 of 26 completions, he concluded the game with four touchdown passes.

Miami’s 726 total yards in the contest set a franchise record for the most yards ever.

The game was deemed “embarrassing” and “tough to watch,” according to Broncos head coach Sean Payton.

Tomorrow will be difficult for many players—as well as for us, the coaches—because we have to watch that footage. It would be one thing to say, “Hey, we’re going to move on to the next game,” Payton continued.

Payton yelled at a reporter later in the news conference as he was setting up his question and going over some of the statistics of the record loss.

“I know this. What are the inquiries? Payton chimed in. What query do you have? I just got through telling you. Question after that.

In the NFL Championship Game in December 1940, the Bears defeated Washington 73-0. Washington defeated the New York Giants 72-41 in the final minutes of the regular season in November 1966.

In a 1950 NFL game against the Baltimore Colts, the Los Angeles Rams were the only other team to score seventy points.
